Hello Reader,
Larry the Letter Carrier dropped into Uruguay the other day and I was like “mate, where have you been? You were supposed to be here last week”. Larry chuckled, “Summer in Uruguay is winter in North America. While you were hot and sunny, I was cold and snowed in”! I cackled back, “you are thawed out now, so let me tell you about some sounds I was laying down”! Larry was like “whoa mate, put it in a letter so I can share with my online friends”.
Let me begin by saying DJ Capybara from Uruguay is in the house! I am a DJ that mixes sounds better than any other capybara around! Can I get a YAY?
Last week was the Jazz to the Streets Festival – one of the most popular festivals in Uruguay. Musicians from all over come to town to share their talent. I was excited to play some of my mixes for the crowd. Let me share a few bites with you!
Can I hear you say D J? D J, D J Capybara. Ca Ca Ca Capybara. DJ Capybara from Uruguay!!!
My webbed paws move the dials and buttons on the DJ mixer creating rhythmic sounds that make you want to move and dance around. The buttons slide up and down. The turntable turns round and round. I push a button for added sound.
Whining whistle woo-hoo woo-hoo chatter chatter click clack. Let’s wind it back! Wind it back! BOOM clack!
Chirp chirp clack clack chime – wave your arms, it’s party time. Wooh – whoosh. Wooh – whoosh. Arms up, arms down – party all around.
Bark bow-wow, purr me-ow – Bark bow-wow, purr me-ow. Listen up! Listen up! Let’s party now!!
Howl yowl, howl yowl. Let’s party now! Break it down, break it down, break it down, down, down. Shhh.
Huff, huff, huff, DJ Capabara we can’t get enough!
Grunt squeak. Wheeze fizz. Grunt squeak. Wheeze fizz. It’s the party that IS! Don’t stop, can’t stop. Keep on moving. Swish, swish, swish.
Can I hear you say DJ? DJ, DJ Capybara. Ca Ca Ca Capybara. DJ Capybara from Uruguay!!!
I hope you had fun making sounds with me. I hope my mix made you sing and dance. All the good vibes make me so happy, I want to cry!

Goodbye, adios!
DJ Capybara
Do you remember? Why was Larry the Letter Carrier late getting to Uruguay? What was the name of the festival? What type of paws did DJ capybara have?
Did you notice the words in red? They are all sounds a capybara makes. How many different sounds are there?
Additional tidbits: Capybaras are the largest rodents in the world. Capybaras are semi-aquatic creatures - they like both land and water. The capybara is a highly social animal. The image of a capybara is on the 2-peso coin of Uruguay. Uruguay has four seasons, their summer is in January and February and the winter months are June, July and August. Spanish is the official language of Uruguay.
